Items of Interest / Plans.
« on: February 04, 2019, 03:02:29 PM »
Our commodore has spent some time sorting out the vast amount of plans we have in the club for those who wish to scratch build. He has booked them up into 'types' making sourcing a bit easier. Anyone interested in a particular boat should ask our Commodore because he's got exceptional knowledge of what's available.

The minutes of the meeting are now published in the members only section and will be displayed in the clubhouse at the weekend.
Members need to read them, the club has an open governance policy however the committee cannot make people read information published for their benefit. :) ;) 8)

Club News and Events / Re: WATER TIME SLOTS- Effective 23rd January
« on: January 21, 2019, 02:27:30 PM »
The following clarifies the procedure. This information will be displayed in the clubhouse.

Water time slots
The following system must be adhered to;
Time slots are available in the clubhouse, on the club web site and will be displayed on the jetty during club hours.

1. Mixing of fast boats with yachts and slow boats will not be tolerated. If there are no boats on the water during a particular time slot and a member wishes to use a model of a type not designated for that time slot, he/she must speak to the safety officer or any other committee member who will determine if the water is to be used by a designated user for that time slot; if not then the safety officer/committee member will approve use. Notwithstanding that approval a member must be prepared to leave the water immediately if a designated time slot user wishes to use the water.
2. It matters not that there may be only one boat on the water during a particular time slot, a boat of a type not authorised for that time slot must not be used.
3. Fast boats are those that are capable of being propelled at more than walking pace. Any doubt, see the safety officer or a committee member.
4. This system will be enforced and the committee will take action against anyone who feels unable to comply. Its designed for the benefit of everyone.

Signed DDMBC Committee. 23rd January 2019

NOTE;  These time slots are to be adhered to, no excuses please. If there are no boats using the water during a specified time slot then please see the safety officer or an other committee member who will check if any designated user is intending to use the water.

It does not matter if a single boat is on the water in a designated time slot, no boat of a type not designated for that slot will be allowed on the water.  Put simply,  never shall the twain shall meet!

Fast boat users will have to accept the inherent risk of several fast boats running together.

The committee decided that action will be taken against any member who feels unable to comply with these procedures designed to ensure plenty of water time whilst preventing damage.  Any doubt please ask!!!!

Club News and Events / Committee meeting- important Bullet points
« on: January 20, 2019, 03:24:44 PM »
Today the club committee met and a number of issues were discussed and resolved. A full set of minutes will be produced very soon in the members only section however the following need to be published now.;

1. Any member who wants to race any of his current boats in the stand off scale racing class needs to let either Dave Nell or Walter Snowden examine them as a matter of some urgency. Any member who intends to build a boat to enter the races must present to Dave or Walter the set of plans etc showing the boat they are going to build; after completion the boat will be examined again before it is allowed to race.

N.B. Please do not assume the boat as it was when you raced last season is acceptable in its current form.

2. A new time table for Yachts, slow boats and fast boats will be displayed in the clubhouse, on this web site and on the jetty during club hours.
These times must be adhered to and the committee will take action against any member who does not abide by them . Everyone wants to have fun at the club but having a boat damaged is not fun. Although each club member pays the same fees to join the club the committee has to try and facilitate water time to reflect the most popular activity and that currently is yacht sailing.
The new times will commence Wednesday 23rd January.

In accordance with the wishes of members as expressed at the 2018 AGM the race times on competition Wednesdays have been radically altered and the programme will start at 12.45pm (NOT 1.0pm) with Fast scale racing.

3. Dave Nell has been co-opted as Club Chairman until the next AGM. Chris Barnbrook remains as a committee member.
N.B. Dave will also continue as Competition Secretary.

Over the coming weeks Dave Nell intends to speak to members at the club making sure everyone is aware of what the committee decided, what the club is doing for the members and what is expected from the members. Hopefully we will have a good year of model boating in which everyone knows how the club functions during club hours. :) ;)
Have fun, enjoy the hobby. :)

Politicians making a mess trying to sort out Brexit ought to visit our committee meetings, they may learn something and stop acting like muppets!    :)

For the information of all members.   The clubs committee will be holding the first meeting of the year in the clubhouse scheduled for 11.30am Sunday 20th January. Members of the club who are not on the committee will be asked to vacate the building. Due to this being the first meeting of the year, and the first since the AGM, there are a number of important issues to resolve.

Items of Interest / Model boat magazine- my articles
« on: December 20, 2018, 10:03:06 AM »
A number of club members have commented on my four page feature about kneeler boats in Decembers issue of Model boats and asked what was next, well I have today been in communication with the editor and the plan is;   the next one will be about the water skier to be followed by converting the far east static models to Rc featuring Dixie and the Riva Zoom most of you have seen. That will be followed by how to make gas turbine powered boats work correctly featuring the Bluebird K7 a boat the editor has a thing for. That will keep me busy for some time.
For a long time I wrote articles/features for marine modelling Magazine and its nice to be now contributing to the other UK based magazine.
I think most folk know Marine Modelling Mag ceased when Traplet publications went bust.

No the government has not legalised weed smoking, yet ::)!  Its the green menace in our pond that's going to need some attention I will be taking a look in the first week of January to see what needs doing and get at it the following week. (depending upon the weather of course)
Volunteers will be needed, usual caveat- only volunteer if you are physically fit to do it and at your own risk. Protective gloves are available.
