As we found out last Wednesday the lake decided to stay frozen up but as quickly as cabinet ministers come and go the lake defrosted by Sunday. Weather forecast for Wednesday is okay so we will try again to remove some weed.

Suddenly its gone? the snow and ice of course. Not exactly the beast from the east more like a mouse from the north! If the lakes defrosted on Wednesday, maybe a big if, we will be doing some weeding.  Any volunteers welcome.

The work area on the left hand side as you walk down to the back from the kitchen area is now ready to use. The CCTV unit, owned by the Parish council, has been cleaned up and a protective cover fitted to the screen. Just a gentle reminder, this equipment is out of bounds to non authorised club members. We don't own it but if we break it we pay!
Please use the area endorsed 'for steaming' for any kind of minor repairs to boats however steam boats have priority. This will help keep the passage way near the toilet clear.

A new notice is currently being made by N signs at Stockton.   'Warning steaming in progress keep out'. Whenever this is displayed it means what it says. No longer can those testing boilers etc have members stood looking over their shoulders. Same applies when these boats are being steamed on the jetty. Owners please gently ask those who like to stick noses into what's going on to refrain from doing so. Any member who wishes to learn about steam boats and see first hand what's involved please see myself or any committee member who will speak first to either the boats owner or the clubs official boiler tester if he's in the process of examining equipment. Yes we have very good insurance but we are expected to apply common sense and due care. :) ;)

Visitors today will have noticed a big difference in the club house work areas.  The large bench has now been cleared and is too be used from now on. This will ensure the passage way from the back door is kept clear and access to the toilet is not blocked by those working on what is the battery charging bay. The bench is marked 'steaming bay' and that is where steamboat testing will take place however it is also available for general use while working on boats needing attention.  Most of the magazines have been cleared away. A bit more work to do however we are nearly finished sorting out the clubhouse.

The overnight temperature and indeed the daytime temperature is such we can rule out any weeding on Wednesday 30th January.
I have obtained a supply of blue dye and will apply it in March if and when the temperature is high enough for it to disperse. My annual blueberry look.

Items of Interest / Lipo damage- incident at club
« on: January 28, 2019, 01:19:17 PM »
On Sunday I had to condemn a club members lipo battery that had only been charged twice :-[. Sadly it had been significantly damaged in a racing boat fitted with a brushless outrunner motor. The battery became loose and in contact with the rotating mass of the outrunner. On an outrunner the entire motor casing rotates at high speed. The hard metal of the motor can cause severe damage to the relatively soft lipo casing.

It is essential that lipos fitted in fast boats fitted with outrunner motors are securely fastened in place. Lipos used with inrunner brushless motors are not such a problem so long as the lipos cannot come into contact with the rotating motor to shaft coupling. Any doubts see me at the club.

Sadly I envisaged the possibility of such an incident occurring when lipos and outrunner motors started to appear. I said so in one of my magazine articles but obviously I take no pleasure at all in the point being so graphically proven on Sunday. Lipos must be taken care of, they are inherently dangerous.

Club News and Events / clubhouse - work area

In accordance with a decision taken at a recent committee meeting the clubhouse is currently been cleared of anything not needed for the smooth running of the club. The work areas at the rear of the club have almost been sorted out and are available for members to use.

The magazine rack at the rear of the club containing model boat and Marine Modelling Mags will be removed on Wednesday. If any member wants some of the magazines please feel free to take them. Any remaining by close of club next Sunday morning will be removed and destroyed.

BTW I will try and remember which hat I am wearing when posting, Club Sec, club safety officer or club member!
