Items of Interest / Lipo damage- incident at club
« on: January 28, 2019, 01:19:17 PM »
On Sunday I had to condemn a club members lipo battery that had only been charged twice :-[. Sadly it had been significantly damaged in a racing boat fitted with a brushless outrunner motor. The battery became loose and in contact with the rotating mass of the outrunner. On an outrunner the entire motor casing rotates at high speed. The hard metal of the motor can cause severe damage to the relatively soft lipo casing.

It is essential that lipos fitted in fast boats fitted with outrunner motors are securely fastened in place. Lipos used with inrunner brushless motors are not such a problem so long as the lipos cannot come into contact with the rotating motor to shaft coupling. Any doubts see me at the club.

Sadly I envisaged the possibility of such an incident occurring when lipos and outrunner motors started to appear. I said so in one of my magazine articles but obviously I take no pleasure at all in the point being so graphically proven on Sunday. Lipos must be taken care of, they are inherently dangerous.

Club News and Events / clubhouse - work area
« on: January 28, 2019, 12:57:54 PM »
In accordance with a decision taken at a recent committee meeting the clubhouse is currently been cleared of anything not needed for the smooth running of the club. The work areas at the rear of the club have almost been sorted out and are available for members to use.

The magazine rack at the rear of the club containing model boat and Marine Modelling Mags will be removed on Wednesday. If any member wants some of the magazines please feel free to take them. Any remaining by close of club next Sunday morning will be removed and destroyed.

BTW I will try and remember which hat I am wearing when posting, Club Sec, club safety officer or club member!
